1870 Commonplace And Short Stories
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Scarce
'Commonplace' was first published on 7 May 1870. The preface is datelined April 1870. Marsh notes that this was a very small print run of 250 copies. Containing the short novella 'Commonplace' and a further seven stories. To the preface, Rossetti notes that the earliest of these stories was written in 1852, with the final tale finished in 1870. This is one of two fiction collections by Rossetti. The titular work follows three parentless sisters, and their fates. A very bright copy of this scarce work. Christina Rossetti was a romantic, devotional author. Her children's poems 'Goblin Market' and 'Remember' remain famous to this day. Rossetti's popularity remained strong posthumously, as scholars studied Freudian themes in her work. She was a great influence to Virginia Woolf, Ford Madox Ford, Elizabeth Jennings and Philip Larkin.
