First edition thus, the first edition of the 'Atlantic Edition'. Signed by Wells to the limitation page of volume I. An uncommon London edition of this work, which has been bound in a sumptuous morocco binding. There were 620 copies of the London edition published, followed bu a subsequent 1050 American sets. Therefore the London edition is less common. H.G Wells was a prolific author who wrote across many genres. He is best remembered for his science fiction novels, which earned him the nickname of the 'Shakespeare of Science fiction' by Brian Aldiss. Wells is held in high esteem alongside Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback in the leading figures of Science fiction. He penned short stories, works of social commentary, history, satire, biography and autobiography. The finest edition of Wells' works, with a revision of the text by Wells himself. This edition also has a new general introduction and a special preface to each volume. Signed by Wells to the first volume. With a frontispiece to all volumes. Volume I is the only volume bound without the original tissue guard. Collated, complete. With classics such as 'The Time Machine', 'Wonderful Visit', 'The War of the Worlds', 'Armageddon', 'Anticipations', 'The Sea Lady', 'Wheels of Chance', 'Mr Kipps' and 'First Men in the Moon'. This is numbered 412 of limited to six hundred and twenty. Many leaves remain unopened to the fore-edge. Wells was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times. This set is an exceptional example of his writings. A beautiful addition to any library.

In uniform full crushed morocco bindings. Externally, excellent with little to no shelf-wear. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Volume I has been bound without the tissue guard. Many leaves remain unopened to the fore-edge. Pages are extremely bright and clean.
