What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Telling the tale of young Hughie's conversations with various animals during his visit to the zoo, this charming work features monochrome illustrations from J.A. Shepherd. Edmund Selous, the author, was an ornithologist and writer, noted for his abhorrence at the killing of animals for scientific study, pioneering bird-watching as study over egg and skin collection; he was the brother of big-game hunter and explorer Frederick Selous. First edition. With monochrome illustrated plates. Contemporary inscription to the front free end paper dated 'Christmas, 1919'. This delightful series of conversations between an eager young protagonist and his animal friends is very much the work of a conscientious appreciator of the natural world.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with four small pictures to the front board. Externally, very smart, with only minor shelfwear to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
