What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The first and only edition of this year's 'Polite Jester'.

The preface notes that previously there had been an 1801 publication of this periodical. This is the second in the series.

However, LibraryHub does not have record of an 1801 edition. Very scarce, with only one copy on LibraryHub, held at the British library. In the publisher's original wraps. This work starts with 'The Laws of Laughing', a humorous essay which explains, who laughts, who is laughed at, and what laugher is about. Prior owner's inscription to the title page. With a humorous frontispiece depicting a congregation asleep by Hogarth. Collated, complete. A smart copy of this scarce satirical pamphlet.

Condition

In the original paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Repaired to the wrap edges and spine professionally. Internally, firmly bound. Pages 45-48 have been misbound upside down and in reverse order. Pages are generally bright. Occasional pencil lines to the margins. Otherwise, just the odd spot.
