1875 Ye Vampyres! A Legend of the National Betting-Ring Showing What Became of It
What Our Customers Say...
Early Edition, Leather Binding
A very scarce work, with only two entries on Copac. The preface to this copy has a leaf that states itself as the 'preface to the tenth thousand'. This is a poem addressed to 'Mr Bull'. It would seem that this is an early impression of the work. Written anonymously by someone who only identifies as 'The Spectre'. With the bookplate to the front pastedown, 'A Volume of the Kent Cochran Collection Purchased by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Associations and Presented to the California Thoroughbred Breeders Foundation, October 5 1959'. Brian J Frost briefly touches on this work in his book 'The Monster with a Thousand Faces: Guises of the Vampire in Myth and Literature'. He notes that this work was published during the Golden Age of vampire literature by the Decadent authors.
In a half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Slightly heavier rubbing to the spine. Marks to boards. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to the edges. Just the odd spots to pages.
