Set in 1949, Venice, California, the amusement pier is being torn down. Bradbury himself lived in Venice for eight years. A body is found in one of the lion cages that is submerged in the canal. Another body is also found of an ancient woman in a room full of empty birdcages. A fantastic mystery novel.
