The first edition thus, being the first edition of this George Chapman translation for the Shakespeare Head Press.
With woodcut frontispiece portraits of Homer and woodcut title-page borders in the first and fifth volumes. With forty-eight full page woodcut illustrations by John Farleigh.
This is numbered 85 of 450 copies printed.
Volumes 1 and 2 are The Iliad; Volumes 3 and 4 are 'The Odysses' with volume 5 being 'Batrachomyomachia, or the Battaile of Frogs and Mise; His Hymns and Epigrams'.
Condition
In uniform half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Fading to the spines. A few light spots to spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
