Fine Binding

Translated into English rhyming verse with explanatory notes by Gilbert Murray.

This tragedy was produced in 415BC during the Peloponnesian War. It is regarded as a commentary on the capture of the Aegean island of Melos and the subsequent slaughter and subjugation of its populace by the Athenians earlier that year.

Prior owner’s inscription to the verso of front endpaper, Gwendolen from Mama Christmas 1908 Selda Dolce. ‘ This book is from the library of the Duke of Leeds’ library and this inscription is from Lady Katherine Frances Lambton to her daughter with George Osborne the 10th Duke of Leeds, Lady Gwendolen Fanny Godolphin Osborne.

The third tragedy dealing with the Trojan War, written by Euripedes.  

Condition

In a full vellum binding. Externally, in an excellent condition with minor shelfwear to the boards. Prior owner’s inscription to the verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Scattered spots to the first and last few pages, as well as to the fore-edge.
