    Henry Morley, renowned academic in the field of English literature, collects his choice of works that best showcase the diversity and quality of English writing in this five volume library set. From 'Beowulf' to 'Gulliver's Travels', this range of poetry, prose, plays, verse and religious writing is collated in these five splendid compendiums, with monochrome vignette illustrations throughout included by Morley to further display the drama of the writing or those who wrote them. Morley himself was one of the first professors of English literature in Great Britain, and as well as his contributions to Cassell's National Library, wrote biographies and for publications of Charles Dickens. With the following five volumes: Shorter English Poems c1875, Illustrations of English Religion c1877, English Plays c1878, Shorter Works of English prose c1878, Sketches of Longer Works in English Verse and Prose c1876. With monochrome vignette illustrations. Undated; dated from copac. A mighty collection, this library set offers Henry Morley's selection of English literary accomplishments.

    Condition

    Rebound in half calf. Externally, all volumes very smart. Some handling marks to the boards and some shelfwear to the head and tail of the spines and extremities to all volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages in all volumes generally bright and clean. Minor spotting to the very front and read and to the fore edge of each volume, not affecting the text.
