He is also known for being a distinguished man of letters, possibly the best letter writer in English history.

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrappers. Volume II and III are unopened in the original plastic. Externally, fine. Dustwrappers with some minor edgewear and a few light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
