Anna Pavlova was a principal artist of the Imperial Russian Ballet and the Ballet Russes. She is most recognised for her creation of the role of 'The Dying Swan'.

To the recto of front endpaper there is a gift inscription from gracious students who had trained with Joan in addition to loosely inserted letter written by the mother of one of the students.
