Lord Henry Cockburn's personal biography on his friend, Lord Francis Jeffrey. Jeffrey was a Scottish judge and literary critic.
This biography works off Jeffrey's extensive letters and correspondence, left behind after he died in 1850.
Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece.
Written by the fellow Scottish lawyer Henry Cockburn. The pair were members of the famous Speculative Society together, alongside Sir Walter Scott.
Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some light marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, head of the spine of Volume II is lifting. A little fading to the spines. Hinges of Volume I are starting but firm, rear hinge of Volume II is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots.
