A French volume, the limited edition of two hundred copies printed on vellum, this volume being number eighteen.

A charming book exploring Jean-Baptiste Charcot's exciting polar adventures, written by Marc Dubu with a preface by Louis de Giller of the French Academy.

Exploring the voyages in the North and South, as well as a biographical sketch of Charcot.

Illustrated with eight full plates and various in text illustrations by Le Bret, who also designed the colourful boards for the cheaper edition.

With a slipcase added in 2003 by David Squirell.

Condition

In the original publisher's paper vellum wraps. Externally very smart with only minor shelfwear and a minor spotting, as usual with this type of paper. Kenn Back bookplate to the front pastedown. Signed by the author to the dedication page "A Gaston Baty, en temoignage de profonde gratitude et de sinese amitie. Affectueuse hommage, Marc Dubu" dated November 1942. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. With eight plates and various in text illustrations by Le Bret.
