Nine volumes from 'Sacred Books of the East'.

'Sacred Books of the East' is a monumental fifty volume series, a collection of English translations of Asian religious texts. Containing sacred texts of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, and Islam.

The original fifty volumes were published between 1879 and 1910.

Containing;

Volume X, 'The Dhammapada' and 'The Sutta-Nipata', published in 1924.

Volume XI, containing seven Buddhist Suttas, published in 1968. Translated by T. W. Rhys Davids.

Volume XX, 'The Kullavagga, IV-XII', Part III, published in 1969. Translated by T. W. Rhys Davids and Hermann Oldenberg.

Volume XXI, 'The Saddharma-Pundarika', published in 1909. Translated by H. Kern.

Volume XXV, 'The Laws of Manu', published in 1967. Translated by G. Buhler.

Volume XXXIV, 'The Vedanta-Sutras' Part I, published in 1890. Translated by George Thibaut.

Volume XXXII, 'Vedic Hymns' Part I, published in 1967. Translated by F. Max Muller.

Volume XXXIX and XL, two volumes bound in one, 'The Texts of Taoism' Parts I and II, published in 1927. Translated by James Legge.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Some minor marks to the boards and spines. A small amount of cockling to the boards of Volume X. Small amounts of plastic adhered to the pastedowns of Volume XI, XX, and XXV. Hinges of Volume XXXIX/XL strained but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a couple of light spots. Volume XXIV uncut to the fore edge.
