First Edition, Illustrated

Illustrated throughout, with numerous plates and vignettes as well as a folding map of the world. Written by John Capper, the editor of the Times of Ceylon, a Sri Lankan newspaper. This work was published following Capper's death. First edition. Has an introductory sketch of the natural history of British India and discusses daily life of the Indian people as well as the British in India.

Condition

In full cloth binding with gilt stamping to spine and front board. Externally, generally smart with bumping and rubbing to the extremities and spine. Crack to head of front joint. Boards have faded. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Folding map to front has been repaired with adhesive tape. Pages are generally bright with scattered spots throughout.
