Illustrated, Original Binding, Very Scarce

A very scarce work.

A collection of letters and documents from the archives of the Earls of Wigton, dated from 1520 to 1650.

The Wigton (or Wigtown) Scottish peerage was founded in 1372, with a second creation in 1606.

The work contains four letters from James VI to John Earl of Wigton, dated from 1605 to 1616, two letters from Charles I to John Earl of Wigton, dated 1643, and three letters from Charles II to the Marquis of Montrose, dated 1650. 

Illustrated with five plates.

Part of the Bannatyne Club series.

Condition

Rebacked, in a quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards, the original boards restored. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the boards. Light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some spots.
