The particular antiquities discussed in this work were all obtained by and held at the British Museum. Some of these antiquities include plaques, some of which depict kings. Benin art was primarily made of bronze and ivory. Illustrated with thirty-two plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Written by Charles Hercules Read and Ormonde Maddock Dalton. Read was an archaeologist and curtor, who held the position of Keeper of British and Medieval Antiquities and Ethnography at the British Museum. He was a major figure in British museum curation.
