An early edition of this uncommon work. 

The 'Eighth Impression' as stated to the title page, which has addition and revisions 'freed from many errors and mistakes of the former editions'. 

With the engraved title page containing images of many past monarchs laid down and trimmed to edges, not affecting image. 

Bound without the portrait frontispiece of Charles II. 

Contemporary inscriptions to the preliminary pages and to the rear end paper. 

With the signatures: A2, A2-7, C2-I2, [2], B-5M4.

Baker was a noted politician, historian and religious writer. This is the work for which he is best known. This was first published in 1643.  


Condition

Rebound, in recent boards. Externally, very smart. Light shelfwear to the extremities. Chipping to the title page at the edges. Closed tear to the centre of front free endpaper. Contemporary inscriptions to the preliminary pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional marks to pages. Minor worming to the bottom margin to T2-3E. Large mark to the bottom of page 117.
