The first edition of the work, uncommon in this edition.

Bernard Burke was a genealogist who's father, John Burke, founded 'Burke's Peerage'. He took over the publications when his father died, after having assisted his father at his work. Burke also published over works, including 'The Roll of Battle Abbey', 'The Romance of the Aristocracy', and 'The Romance of the Forum'.

The General Armory of England and Scotland is an important historical work, detailing the armorial bearings from their origin to present day.

This copy was previously housed at the Hertfordshire County Council Library, with their bookplate to the front pastedown and library stamps on a few pages (see condition report for more details).
