1781 Compte Rendu Au Roi
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Very Scarce
A very scarce work.
Jacques Necker produced this document as France was suffering financially. Necker was the director-general of the royal treasury and was blamed for the debt accrued from the American Revolution. King Louis XVI's expenditures were lavish, and his spending was affecting the country. Necker showed Louis XVI his annual report which the King subsequently tried to keep secret. This work was published in revenge and was rapidly translated into Dutch, German, Danish, Italian and English.
This is Necker's most influential work as it summarized the governmental income and expenditures. It was the very first record of Royal Finances being made public.
