First Edition, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

The first edition of this work. This also appears to be the only edition of this work. A very scarce work. Collated, bound without leaves L4 and L5. Otherwise, work is complete. Final leaf of advertisement is present. A collection of essays by William Berkeley, the essays focussing on both morals and theological subjects, such as preaching on the conduct of life. The essays were delivered by a variety of people. The essays contained are; 'Friendly Conference' by Glyon, 'The Prologue to Piety' by Meletus, 'The Wife Fool' by Phanias, 'Joyful Sorrow' by Luperus, 'The Only Object' by Theosebius and Sebagius', and 'The World's Riddle' by Eurekatas and Musophil. Compiled by William Berkeley, M.A.

Condition

In a full morocco binding. Externally, generally smart. Some rubbing to the boards and spine. Some loss to the head of the spine and to the extremities. Small crack to the head of the front joint. Crack to the rear board. Some marks to the boards and spine. Two leather repairs to the rear board. Boards are a little cocked. Bound without front endpaper. No paper adhered to the front pastedown. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots and the odd handling mark. Numerical ink inscription to leaf A8. Errata slip adhered to the reverse of leaf A8. Small tidemark to the head of the pages.
