Description

Very Scarce

Rebound, in a vellum binding, with the original endpapers removed. To the rear there are many blank pages for notes. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper dated 1746. With an institutional stamp to the title page of 'Bibl. Stud. Acad. Laus.' to the title page. With the signatures 8, A-T8, V4. A very scarce work, last seen at auction in 1999. Held at the three Legal deposit libraries in the United Kingdom only. In Latin. This is a work of Hermeticism, which analyses the writings of Hermes Trismegistus, Zoroaster and Sanchuniathon. Hermeticism influenced the Western esoteric tradition and was of great importance during the Renaissance and Reformation. The author of this work, Johannes Heinrich Ursinus was a Lutheran theologian, humanist and the dean of Regensburg. He is best known for his 'Arboretum Biblicum' which was the first attempt to create a concordance of botanical references in the Bible. His 'Hierozoicon' was a zoological compendium of biblical animals. A very smart work.
