Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon

The second edition of this work. An uncommon work. In the original publisher's boards. 'Domestic Management' is a cookery work from the beginning of the nineteenth century. However the work delves deeper into cookery and health than simply just offering recipes to follow and offerings a treatise on diet. The author, Annabella Plumtree, also discusses diets and the best diet to follow for optimum health. She also presents advice to the rear on how to feed children, the use of kitchen utensils, domestic management, and also advice on the diet for the sick, and how to observe symptoms of various diseases. Illustrated with a frontispiece. This work is a duodecimo. No author is attributed in this edition, though it was written by Annabella Plumtree, who lived from 1759 to 1838. Her sister, Anne Plumptre, was also a writer and a translator. Together, they acted in a private theatre in 'Adelaide', a play written by their friend Amelia Alderson in 1791. Both of the sisters divided their time between Norwich and London. Annabella was known for being attentive to her studies, and staying at home a little more than her more adventurous sister did, as well as being a teacher. She never married, and also wrote 'Montgomery, or, Scenes in Wales', 'Domestic Stories', and 'The Mountain Cottage, or, Wonder upon Wonder, a Tale from the German'. With three pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. An uncommon second edition of Annabella Plumtree's cookery work.
