The first edition of this work.

Complete in three volumes.

Captain Marryat's popular children's novel, following the adventures of a shipwrecked family who are trying to survive on a desert island.

Each volume is illustrated with a frontispiece, and in-text illustrations.

Marryat was a Royal Navy officer, best known for his novel 'Mr Midshipman Easy'.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper of Volume I.

Condition

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Minor rubbing to the boards and spines. Rubbing has resulted in a little loss of paper. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spines. Hinges of Volume I are starting but firm. Front hinge of Volume II is strained but remains firm. Hinges of Volume III are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots.
