A beautiful pop-up book of the tale of 'Sleeping Beauty', with numerous charming and amusing pop-up illustrations by the celebrated Czech artist Kubasta. Designed and produced by Artia for Bancroft & Co.
Found institutionally only at the British Library and at the Victoria and Albert Museum libraries, dated from the copy at the British Library on Jisc.
Sadly the pop-ups are damaged, particularly that to front board and first leaf of text. The cooks in the kitchen and the heads of the King and Queen are a little stuck and may detach with further handling. The copy remains a charming edition of this classic children's tale.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over illustrated boards. Externally with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine, pop up illustration loosely inserted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
