Description

Illustrated, Signed Binding

A bright copy of Jane Austen's enduring love story, which was first published in 1813.

Illustrated with a frontispiece - retaining the original tissue guard - by William Cubitt Cooke.

Prestigious bookbinder Robert Riviere published and bound numerous editions of Austen's works.

In the 1920s, Riviere initially published Austen's novels with frontispieces by C. E. Brock, however in the 1930s, they transitioned to using the frontispieces of William Cubbitt Cooke, who is chiefly remembered for his ten volume 1892 edition of Austen's works, published by J. M. Dent.

Condition

In a full calf signed binding by Riviere, with gilt detailing. Externally, very smart, with light spotting to perimeters of front board. Rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
