What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Illustrated, Scarce

Collated, complete with thirty nine plates. Joseph Spier was a popular Dutch artist and illustrator born in Zutphen in the Netherlands. Spier worked for the newspaper 'De Telegraaf' where he created humorous illustrations and cartoons about everyday life. Spier's work became political with the outbreak of the second world war, and he was arrested for a satirical depiction of Hitler and held in a concentration camp until the end of the war.

Condition

In a paper binding. Externally, worn with loss to rear board. Hinges failed with textblock detached from boards aside from one plate. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with handling marks and light tide marks to page edges, plates unaffected.
