First Edition, Illustrated

Very scarce first edition, in original publisher's paper wrap, of an undated issue of John Bull weekly magazine entitled Illustrated Official Guide to the 'Deutschland'.

John Bull magazine was a periodical which during the First World War was relaunched by MP Horatio Bottomley and edited by Charles Frederick Palmer. 

Dated cartoon reprinted from 1919 to the end and political context dates this at the First World War. Originally U-155, the 'Deutschland' was built and made its first journey in 1916. It was surrendered to the Allies in 1918 and bought by Horatio Bottomley who rechristened it Deutschland.

Includes illustrations within the text throughout.  

Includes an undated ink inscription to page 1, 'Bought from Charring X [Cross] Pier, London'.

Condition

In original publisher's paper wrap. Externally, smart. The front board is half-detached. There is some spotting to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Includes an undated ink inscription to page 1, 'Bought from Charring X [Cross] Pier, London'.
