What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, Decorative Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
'The Water-Babies' was originally written as part-satire to support 'The Origin of Species' by Charles Darwin, and quickly became a classic piece of children's literature. As with many classic pieces of Victorian literature, it functions as a didactic moral fable, telling of young chimney sweep Tom's moral education. Penned by Charles Kingsley (1819-1875), a priest, professor, novelist, poet and friend of Charles Darwin.
Illustrated with six full colour plates by illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964), three of which are loose but present. Attwell was also the illustrator for a number of other important classic children's works, such as 'Mother Goose', 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Peter Pan and Wendy'.
In the publisher's original binding with an illustrated cover.
Published for the Golden Treasure Library.
