Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch was a British author, best known for 'The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250-1900'. He wrote a great deal of novels anonymously as 'Q' during his lifetime, including 'Dead Man's Rock', 'The Splendid Spur', and 'Poison Island'. 'The Roll Call of Honour' is a cautionary book for children, outlining the lives of nine figures who led 'golden lives', intending to show these figures as respectful role models to children. This includes Abraham Lincoln, David Livingstone, and Florence Nightingale. With a bookplate to the front pastedown, 'Secondary Day School, Trowbridge, Pride awarded to George Bailey'. With a booksellers label to the bottom of the front pastedown, 'Geo W Rose, Bookseller and Stationer, Trowbridge. This copy is undated, dated using Copac.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart. A small amount of light shelfwear to the rear board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. With a bookplate to the front pastedown, 'Secondary Day School, Trowbridge, Prize awarded to George Bailey'. With a booksellers label to the bottom of the front pastedown, 'Geo W Rose, Bookseller and Stationer, Trowbridge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spot. Offsetting to the half-title page. Frontispiece is lacking the tissue guard.
