A delightful work about cats for children, with numerous passages narrating the fictionalised lives of cats.
The scarce first edition of this work.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and a further thirteen full page illustrations, all in bright colour.
Collated and complete.
Written and illustrated by Louis Wain, who is best known for his anthropomorphised cat drawings that featured cats and kittens with large eyes. Later in his life he was institutionalised for alleged schizophrenia, which some psychiatrists have said can been seen in his works.
Containing a 'This Book Belongs To' box to the front pastedown; written instead in ink is: 'Shirley Rosemary Silverword, A Present from Her Gran'.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper covered boards. Externally, cloth is split significantly to the front joint. Shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. A small amount of loss to the binding at the corners and extremities. Front joint is starting and rear joint is strained.
