This set contains a selection of writings of James Fenimore Cooper, a prolific writer of the early 19th century and the first major American novelist.

Cooper was best known for his historical romances that depicted indigenous and colonial characters from the 17th and 19th centuries, such as his popular 'Leatherstocking Tales', which introduced the iconic American frontier scout, Natty Bumppo. 

Within this series of novels is a title often regarded as his magnum opus, 'The Last of the Mohicans', the second book of the pentalogy and the best known to contemporary audiences.

Each volume is decorated with an vignette title page, engraved frontispiece and two further plates. Collated, complete.

Uniformly bound in the publisher's red cloth. Externally, very smart, with rubbing to the extremities and sunning to the spine labels. Faint marks to the boards. Damp stains to the spine tail of 'Home as Found', Homeward Bound', and to the rear board of 'Mohicans'. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
