Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Original Binding
The first edition. Privately printed. In the original full cloth binding with gilt detail. A presentation copy from the author's wife, with a gift card attached to the front free endpaper and an inscription dated 1905 to the front blank. A lovely collection of Christmas carols and Anglican hymns collected, translated and written by Frederic William Farrar. Dedicated for his children. Farrar was a cleric of the Church of England and was the pallbearer at the funeral of Charles Darwin in 1882. With a bookplate for one 'Percival F. Hinton' to the front free endpaper.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges and spine. Handling marks to the boards. Bookplate to the front paste-down.. Gift card attached to the front free endpaper. Light offsetting to the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some light age-toning to the edges and a few scattered spots. Ink inscription to the front blank. Pages roughly cut.
