Some early impressions of seven tales by Beatrix Potter. All volumes are undated, dated from Jisc c1905-1910.
Excellent editions in their original binding.
Beatrix Potter is a famed author for children's literature, who saw major success with her tales featuring animals, starting from 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' in 1902; Of these children's tales there exist twenty three each regarding a different animals.
She was also a prize-winning breeder of Herdwick sheep and a farmer keenly interested in land preservation. She kept writing and illustrating her tales for Frederick Warne until her duties of land management and her diminishing eye-sight made it hard to continue.
All volumes are written and fully illustrated in colour by Beatrix Potter.
This set includes seven of her tales:
The Tale of Peter Rabbit, following a mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he is chased around the garden of Mr McGregor.
The Tailor of Gloucester, declared Potter's favourite, is about a tailor whose work on waistcoat is finished by the grateful mouse he rescued from his cat.
The Tale of Tom Kitten, concerning manners and how children react to them.
The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, following an impertinent squirrel and his narrow escape from an owl.
The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, a hedgehog washerwoman who lives in a tiny cottage in the fells of the Lake district.
The Tale of Mrs Tittlemouse, concerning housekeeping and insect pests in the home.
The Tale of Flopsy Bunnies; Benjamin Bunny and his cousin Flopsy are the parents of six young rabbits called Flopsy Bunnies, who are captures by the evil Mr. McGregor.
Condition
In the original publisher's illustrated paper covered boards. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear only and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The spine to 'The Tailor of Gloucester,' 'The Tale of Mrs Tittlemouse,' and 'The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin' is slightly sunned. 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' is inscribed by a previous owner "George Simmonds" to the half title page, dated 1917, as well as 'The Tailor of Gloucester', undated, 'Tom Kitten,' dated 1916, '. 'Squirrel Nutkin,' dated 1917, 'The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle,' undated, 'The Tale of Tittlemouse,' dated 1916, and 'The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies' dated 1917. INternally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean All volumes are fully illustrated in colour by Beatrix Potter.
