The first edition. Volume one out of a two volume set. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with elaborate gilt lettering. A collection of large photographs portraying the conservative and unionist British statesmen of the Victorian period. Each photograph is paired with a a description of the statesman, with information on their backgrounds and political careers. Statesmen featured include, Henry Chaplin, Viscount Cross, and the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. With a large frontispiece, and eighteen photographs mounted on heavy card. Collated complete. With a previous owner's ink inscription, dated 1904, to the front blank. With a bookplate for, 'Worcester Public Library', to the front paste-down and library stamps throughout.
Condition
In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Shelf wear to the edges. Bumping and fraying to the spine. Small amount of loss to the spine. The front joint is starting. The rear joint is cracked but still firm. Fading to the spine and to the edges of the boards. Light marks to the boards. Library bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean, with some scattered handling marks. Previous owner's gift inscription to the front blank. Library stamps throughout, including to the frontispiece and title page. Small ink mark to the upper title page.
