John Knox was a theologian and minister active in Scotland during the sixteenth century; he was a proponent of the Reformation, and founded the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. He also wrote a five volume 'History of the Reformation in Scotland'.

Written by George Barnett Smith, an English journalist and author known for his biographies, which included the likes of Victor Hugo, Queen Victoria, William Gladstone and Percy Bysshe Shelley.
