Illustrated, Pleasing Copy

An undated copy, dated from Jisc c1900 A charming photo album of Edinburgh, containing a vast series of illustrations of the city. With a plan of Edinburgh and a short guide with places of interest, brief history, and guide to the sights of Edinburgh.

An original copy charmingly bound in Clan Campbell of Argyle tartan cloth with the clan's crest in tartan cloth to the front board. A Highland Scottish clan, historically one of the largest and most powerful clans in the Highlands, whose chief became the Earl and later Duke of Argyll. 

From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.

She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things'. 

Condition

Rebound in Clan Campbell tartan cloth binding to the front board, and paper covered rear board. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, some fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. With a small bookseller sticker to the front pastedown. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with numerous photographs of Edinburgh in black and white throughout as well as a plan of the city to the rear pastedown.
