Description

Early Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Pleasing Copy

An early edition of this novel by Jules Verne, dated c1897 from the publisher's adverts. The original French edition, first published in 1873 in two volumes. Originally, the story appeared in a serialisation in Magasin d’Éducation et de Récréation from 1872 to 1873. 

Following the story of Lt. Jasper Hobson and other members of the Hudson's Bay Company as they travel through the Northwest territories of Canada to Cape Bathurst on the Arctic Ocean: they have a mission to create a fort at seventy degrees, north of the Arctic Circle. 

One of the stories in 'Les Voyages Extraordinaires' by Jules Verne. 

Richly illustrated in text by Férat and De Beaurepaire, including a frontispiece and a vignette title page.

Condition

In a quarter morocco binding over cloth covered boards with four raised bands and gilt to the spine and edges. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some rubbing to the leather. Internally, the hinges are slightly loose but firm at the title page, causing the leaf to slightly tear, otherwise firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Richly illustrated in text by Férat and De Beaurepaire, including a frontispiece and a vignette title page.
