Lacking tile page to 'Chamber's Twentieth Century Dictionary', dated using Copac. 'Cassell's Complete Book of Sports and Pastimes' is dated 1893. Both works are copiously illustrated throughout. Both copies feature an ink inscription and stamp of a 'Reginald H. Warren'. The 'Chambers Dictionary' was first published in 1872 by William and Robert Chambers as 'Chambers's English Dictionary', followed in 1901 by a new compact edition called 'Chambers's Twentieth Century Dictionary'. Widely used by British crossword solvers and setters and Scrabble players, this dictionary contains more dialectal, archaic, unconventional and eccentric words than its rivals, and is often noted for its occasional wryly humorous definitions.
