Description

Colour Plates, Very Scarce

A very scarce card deck of thirty-two cards illustrating eight characters from Charles Dickens's stories, each on four cards. Featuring the following characters: Bob Cratchit, The Two Wellers, Captain Cuttle, Sydney Carton, Little Nell, Micawber, Nicholas Nickleby and Mr Pickwick.

Made anonymously, one deck of two halves. Here without the box. 

Advertisement for this game 'Dickens Snap' first appeared in The Penny Illustrated in 1875, five years after Dickens's death. Very little is known about this Victorian card game.

Condition

Complete set of thirty-two cards with lovely coloured illustrations. A little age-toned as common, otherwise generally clean with minor handling marks.
