Description

Colour Plates, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding

Written by Emil Naumann (1827-1888), a German composer who specialised in choral work, as well as his music theory and history work. Edited by Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley (1825-1889), a celebrated English composer, musicologist and priest who served as Professor of Music at the University of Oxford.

Each volume contains a full colour frontispiece illustration, as well as numerous vignette and full plate illustrations, as well as thirteen folding plates between the two.

This is a prize binding from the Chester School of Science and Art, presented to H. M. Rigby for Studies of Trees, dated 1890.

Condition

In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally a trifle rubbed to the spine, chipping to the head and foot of the spines, some loss of leather to the raised bands. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound, minor spotting more prominent to the plates, otherwise pages bright and clean.
