Edited by Wilfrid Meynell CBA (1852-1948), a British editor and newspaper publisher who contributed to a range of periodicals including The Art Journal, The Magazine of Art, Athenaeum, The Daily Chronicle and Contemporary Review.

With a profuse number of vignette illustrations, as well as eight full plates in volume I and ten full plates in volume II. Collated, complete.

With detail on the likes of Sir Frederick Leighton, William Holman Hunt, Eastman Johnson, G. H. Boughton, Sir John Everett Millais and many other important artists.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, a little general wear including bumping to the head of Volume II in particular and two punctures to the spine of volume I. Internally firmly bound, pages are bright and clean.
