A vanishingly scarce work, with only two held institutionally at Oxford Brookes University and the Historic Homes Truth of New South Wales.

An immense cyclopaedia containing much useful knowledge on family management and home economics. This genre of work thrived in Victorian England, guiding the reader on the running of a home, including a selection of popular recipes.

Including sections on the art of letter writing, the language of flowers, and information on the meanings of Christian names.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, six colour plates, eight monochrome plates, and many in-text illustrations.

Undated, dated c1886 based on the publication of the Ward, Lock, & Co edition.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the boards and spine. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm, rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots and handling marks.
