Edited by James Macaulay (1817-1902), a Scottish medic, journalist, editor and author, who was general editor for the Religious Tract Society.

Published by the Religious Tract Society, founded in 1799, who published a number of religious works intended for evangelism.

This work was praised by the prolific and renowned art critic John Ruskin.

Illustrated profusely throughout with full plate and vignette drawings by various artists, and a full colour frontispiece.

With a pictorial cloth cover with gilt detail.

Undated; dated from copies on Library Hub.

Condition

In a full cloth binding. Externally very smart, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and a small mark to the front board. Internally firmly bound, pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot more noticeable to the first and final leaves.
