Renowned for his iconic lyric poems that often presented stories of mythology and legend, Longfellow became the most popular American poet of his day and had extensive success overseas. He is best known for the works 'Paul Revere's Ride', 'The Song of Hiawatha', and 'Evangeline', but he is also renowned as the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy'. This work is copiously illustrated throughout by Thomas Seccombe. This copy is undated, dated using Copac and the prefatory notice to the front of the text.
Condition
In a half polished calf binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, excellent. Minor rubbing to extremities and joints. Slight fading to spine. Hinges slightly strained, but firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned but very bright and clean throughout. Scattered spots to upper extremity of first few pages. Prior owner's ink inscription to second free-endpaper, dated '6/5/85'.
