What Our Customers Say...

Description

Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

With eleven photographic plates depicting scenes of the notable landmarks of Brussels, with a particular emphasis on architecture. With images of such locations as the Place Royale, Martyr's Square and Congress Column. Each plate is captioned with the location.

An extremely scarce work, this is one of a series of souvenir works from auction house, art dealer and publishing house Goupil & Cie. Though undated, this can be identified as circa 1880 due to the presence of 'H. V. Van Gogh' in the publisher's information to the front board. Theo Van Gogh joined the Brussel's office of Goupil in 1873, and transferred to the Paris office in 1884, at which point Goupil & Cie changed its name.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to extremities and spine head and tail, resulting in loss to the cloth. Marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Light foxing throughout.
