Colour Plates, Illustrated, Rebound

Eight volumes in one from the 'Picture Books' series of children's books by Randolph Caldecott, published every Christmas for eight years and sold for a shilling each. Comprising the following titles: The Diverting History of John Gilpin; The Three Jovial Huntsmen; The House that Jack Built; An Elegy on the Death of a Mad Dog; The Babes in the Wood; Sing a Song for Six Pence; The Queen of Hearts;  and The Farmer's Boy. 

Each title features the original colourful wraps bound in with colourful plates and black and white illustrations in text. With Routledge's 'Shilling Toy-Books' series catalogued to wraps. 

Randolph Caldecott was a very popular British artist and illustrator known for his influential work with children's books and humorous depictions of hunting and fashionable life.

Condition

Rebound in full cloth signed Edmund Warrall, with the original wraps bound in with the volume. Externally sound with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine, back strip faded, damp marks to boards, boards lightly marked. Internally, binding generally firm. Pages generally very clean throughout.
