Maurice Lachatre is the pen name of Maurice de la Chatre, a French editor (1814-1900). He compiled the Universal Dictionary between 1852 and 1856, with Volume I published in 1865 and Volume II published in 1870.

Condition

In a quarter calf bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, sound, rubbed in places. Sunning to the spines. Three hinges strained and one hinge slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although the first and last few pages of volume I are detached but present or working loose. Age toning and some scattered light foxing. Some creasing to the endpapers.
