With numerous full colour chromo-lithograph plates, brightly illustrated title page, and portrait frontispiece of the Rev John Brown.

A Presbyterian Scottish minister, this work of John Brown was first published in 1778 in two volumes. The work contains history, chronology, geography, summaries, explanatory notes, and reflections on the Bible, as well as a biography of Brown and both the Old and New Testaments.

To the verso of a front free endpaper is an inscription dating from 1906 identifying this volume as at that time the property of the children of the Crossley family, George, Jack and Polly, spending some time with them in South Africa.

Condition

In the publisher's original full morocco binding. Bumping to extremities. Rubbing to boards, most concentrated at joints. Contemporary owner's inscriptions to verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Some spotting to pages. Plates exceptionally bright.
