A beautiful copy of this volume comprising John Evelyn memoirs and diary from his adult life until his death, as well as a selection of family letters, rebound in a full decorative vellum binding with intricate gilt tooling to the spine. An undated copy from the 'Chandos Library', dated from Jisc. Jisc notes a half-title, which this volume is lacking. Edited by William Bray. 

The many volumes of diary provide an insight into life and events at a time when magazines and newspaper were not yet published, raising interest into diary as an important historical resource. Covering art, culture, and politics, with personal accounts of the execution of Charles I, Oliver Cromwell's rise and death, the last Great Plague of London, and the Great Fire of London in 1666. John Evelyn was a seventeenth century English author and gardener.
